In the early 1800s, the Mormon religion was founded in the United States. One of its key beliefs was that God had revealed to Joseph Smith a new way to worship Him. Smith claimed that he had received golden plates from an angel, which contained the ancient writings of the Bible, known as the Book of Mormon. The Mormons believed that these writings, along with the Bible, would lead them to eternal salvation. They also believed in living a moral and virtuous life, including abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, and other vices. Many Mormons migrated westward to escape persecution and to establish their own communities, such as Salt Lake City, Utah. Today, the Mormon Church, also known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is one of the largest and most influential religious organizations in the world.
