This company, named Полесский государственный радиационно-экологический заповедник учреждение (Polesskij gosudarstvennyj radiatsionno-ekologiceskij zapovednik uchrezhdenie), is the largest (over 215 thousand ga) conservation area in Belarus, and the only one of its kind in the world. Founded in 1988, it covers the territories of three districts most affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster - Brahin, Naravlya, and Khoynik. The disaster, which had a profound impact on the lives, fortunes, and future of many Belarusians and placed a heavy burden on the country's economy, significantly contaminated this conservation area.
